Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a wonderful fortnight. There has been some great learning happening in all classrooms and I am so pleased with how everyone is working to be the best they can be.
This week we received some new sporting equipment including some portable soccer goals. It was so wonderful to see our Year 6 girls out playing soccer during the week. There are certainly some hidden talents there.
Clarity
This year our Diocese has committed to a whole system focus on the work of Dr Lyn Sharratt. The aim of this work is to improve our school’s educational outcomes for students, continue to improve the skills of our teachers and work to ensure that our students meet expected growth and achievement in their learning.
Part of this process is for our students to be able to answer 5 questions about their learning. Over the next term we will be really focussing on Learning Intentions and Success Criteria in our lessons and asking these 5 questions of our students.
- What are you learning? Why?
- How are you doing?
- How do you know?
- How can you improve?
- Where do you go for help?
We are all aware that the education of our students is a team effort and through working with parents in partnership we are able to increase the chance of success for our students. I am sure you have all experienced the shrugging of shoulders or the answer “nothing”, when you have asked your children what they did at school. Here are 5 questions you can ask your children which might get some different answers.
- What did you learn today?
- How did you do?
- What did you do if you didn’t understand?
- How can you improve on your learning?
- What are you most proud of?
Have you answered our survey on Home Learning Yet?
Thank you to those parents who have already responded to our Home Learning Survey. If you haven’t had a chance yet, please take 5 minutes to share your thoughts. The survey will close on Wednesday the 25th of June.
Ukulele
Ukulele started this week with Mrs Murray. Our two groups have enjoyed their first lessons and are working towards learning their first song. We can’t wait to hear it.
Playground Update
This week our Year 6 students voted on their top playground designs and are now taking them to all classes for their votes. From here we will begin to work with parents and teachers to come up with our final design and start planning for the work to be done. Thanks to those parents who have joined our team. If you are interested in being part of this group, please contact the office.
Have a wonderful fortnight and please join me in saying a prayer for a calm and happy final two weeks of term 2.
God Bless

Prime Minister Award
‘ Being a steward of creation’, ‘trying your best’, ‘speaking with kindness’ and ‘ being a responsible learner’ are some of the qualities that teachers consider when awarding ‘Prime Minister’ at our weekly assembly. It is an acknowledgement of the student’s efforts and they have the privilege of wearing the badge with honour, of suggesting a focus the school can work on, award Gotchas to other students at lunch time as well as earning Gotchas for themselves. Congratulations to Nicole Jordan (Week 8).
Welcome
Another warm welcome to 2 new students at our school. Lexie Van Der Merwe and Isak Van Der Merwe have joined us in Year 6 and Year 4. We hope that you and your family enjoy being part of our St Joseph’s community.
Thank you to all of our parents for continuing to support us in following the protocols in place due to COVID 19.
At the moment we are still advised that:
- Parents need to continue to drop off and pick up their students from outside the school gate. Please do not come into the school to collect your child or drop them off. We are asking that you do not come in to the grounds to drop your child off at their classroom in the morning. This is a strong recommendation from the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee.
- If you do need to enter the school grounds, can you please contact the office first?
- If your child is sick, even a little bit, please keep them at home. Any child that presents unwell at school will be sent home.
- Please send a water bottle with your child, we are not able to use the bubblers at the moment.
Your support in this matter is really appreciated. Hopefully by next term things will be a little bit more back to normal and I will keep you informed as restrictions ease.
Uniform Focus - Sports Uniform
Thank you for your continued support of our school uniform. Please be reminded that the only tracksuit pants permitted on sports day are Midford Microfibre Tracksuit pants which are available from the school office ($30). Our sport uniform also consists of a
navy blue polo shirt with gold trim (with school logo), navy Midford shorts(boys) or tailored shorts (girls), sport shoes with short (above the ankle - not anklets) white socks. If a student is unable to wear the correct uniform, please provide a note.
