Dear Parents and Carers,
By now most of you would have had your meeting with your child’s teacher to discuss their current progress and learning goals. Thank you for taking the time to engage with us so we can continue to work in partnership for the best outcomes for your children.
Bus Passes
It is expected that all students travelling on the bus should carry their bus pass and be ready to show the bus driver. You can find more information about school student bus travel and apply for a bus pass online using the link below.

Tell Me a Story
This year our students were given the opportunity to participate in the Tell Me a Story competition. Congratulations to Eleanor whose story “Lost Forest” received a Commended certificate. Also congratulations to Ella, Savannah and Sophie who submitted illustrations to accompany Eleanor’s story. On the 11th of August the four girls attended a presentation at St Clare’s in recognition of their efforts.
On the 8th of August our school paused to recognise and celebrate Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop. This is an important day in our school community as our school was founded by the Sisters of St Joseph’s, which Mary belonged to. Year 1 did a beautiful job hosting our liturgy and sharing the story of St Mary MacKillop with our school community.
Cooking with Mrs Hunt
One of our PBS rewards is cooking with Mrs Hunt. On Friday Susannah chose to do cooking and along with Marley and Grace, the girls made Honey Joys for their class.
Public Speaking
Thank you to Mrs Bridgeman for coordinating our school Public Speaking competition and congratulations to our school finalists and representatives. Mrs Bridgeman has written a small piece later in the newsletter with more details.

National Day Against Bullying and Violence
On Friday our school recognised the National Day Against Bullying and Violence. All children in our school took part in lessons on Friday focusing on Bullying.
“When someone has many connections to people and places, they feel safe and happy. The more connections they have, the better they are at dealing with hard times in their life. Having people to talk to, or to ask for help, are great ways to help prevent bullying.”
This Kids Helpline has a great definition of bullying and what bullying behaviours are, which I think is child friendly and put in a way that our children can understand.
One of the things that we find hard at school is when children don’t report behaviours or conflicts that are occurring. We encourage our students to report incidents, so we can manage any issues quickly.
Please join me in a prayer that all children are able to feel they are safe and valued in their school and that they have the courage to tell someone when they don’t feel safe.
God Bless
Prime Minister Award
'Being a steward of creation’, ‘Trying your best’, ‘Speaking with kindness’ and ‘Being a responsible learner’ are some of the qualities that teachers consider when awarding ‘Prime Minister’ at our weekly assembly. It is an acknowledgement of the student’s efforts and they have the privilege of wearing the badge with honour, of suggesting a focus the school can work on, award Gotchas to other students at lunch time as well as earning Gotchas for themselves. Congratulations to Tiarna Pulupaki (Week 5) and Caitlyn Lyon Week 6).

Unexplained Absences
Parents will notice that letters seeking explanations for absences are no longer being sent home via hard copy. These are now being emailed. You can choose to print, sign and return the form. Alternatively, you can open the compass app, click on the shortcut button at the bottom, select "submit attendance note" and enter the date you wish to explain an absence for.
How proud are we!
I had the privilege of adjudicating students at our school public speaking competition last Friday and I am always overwhelmed by their ability to stand in front of an audience and deliver a well thought out speech. Students were displaying their classroom learning by using high modality words with rhetorical questions to keep us all thinking about their chosen argument. They all entertained and inspired us with their confidence as well as their ability to persuade an audience. Congratulations to our students who throughout the term have presented in the classroom and to those who presented in front of our school audience. We are very proud of our students and how they always represent themselves well in all learning challenges.

What's been happening in Year 1
Year 1 Learning Collaboratively
Year 1 have been working together to design original and/or tall towers that are free standing. They have been manipulating blocks of various sizes to create their masterpiece.
Year 2 News
Year 2 have had a busy start to the term with students learning about persuasive writing and public speaking. In Math, students have been learning to add and subtract two digit numbers and problem solve by looking for key words within the question. We have also been learning the script for our JAFA performance. The students are very enthusiastic and excited to show their family members and friends.
