Prime Minister Award

‘Being a steward of creation’, ‘Trying your best’, ‘Speaking with kindness’ and ‘Being a responsible learner’ are some of the qualities that teachers consider when awarding ‘Prime Minister’ at our weekly assembly. It is an acknowledgement of the student’s efforts and they have the privilege of wearing the badge with honour, of suggesting a focus the school can work on, award Gotchas to other students at lunch time as well as earning Gotchas for themselves. Congratulations goes to Isaac Ungaro (week 6)

Behaviour Management at St. Josephs – PB4L and MJR

As mentioned in our previous newsletters, our PB4L system uses a points system to reward positive behaviour. “Gotchas” are given to students for positive social behaviours in the classroom and playground and for individual acts of great respect. These behaviours relate to our school-wide expectations of being safe, respectful learners and stewards of creation. These expectations are set out on a matrix to provide consistency across the school. Students are explicitly taught the weekly focus area, however they are also taught about expectations in the various school settings.
Each Gotcha, which students collect, equals a point. These points are collated each week in the classroom and students can redeem these points for special privileges each Thursday. To celebrate positive behaviour, students receive a badge for each hundred milestone reached. Our process this year is for admin to contact you to invite you to attend the weekly assembly if your child is receiving a milestone badge.

What has been happening in Year 2.............
Year 2 have had a wonderful start to the 2025 school Year. The students have settled into their new routine and are learning their classroom jobs. Year 2 have picked up where they left off in Year 1, working on their reading fluency with decodable texts. They have been consolidating their knowledge of narrative and learning to structure it with added detail of setting and characters.
In Math, we have been learning to identify patterns, add and subtract two-digit numbers using various strategies and identifying key words and numbers within worded problems.

The students have been blessed with new classroom facilities and equipment over the holiday period including one to one device. This has been very exciting for the students and will only add to the learning experiences within Year 2 this year.

Diocesan Swimming

On Wednesday 26th February 2025 Eleanor Healy, Kai MacMillan and Samuel Ungaro attended the Diocesan Swimming Carnival at the Forum in Newcastle. The best swimmers in the Newcastle/Maitland Diocesan were assembled. The students had a great day at the event competing hard in their respective races and representing St Joseph's Wingham well. A big thank you to Sheree Ungaro and Alissa Healy for transporting the students to the event. It was a wonderful experience and achievement for the students!
