Choosing the right education for your child is one of the most important decisions you will ever make.

As parents, carers, or grandparents you have a choice - and the right - to offer your child the best education available.

The Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle proudly hosts some of the best schools in Newcastle, Maitland, the Hunter and Upper Hunter, Lake Macquarie and Manning regions.

Catholic schools offer a unique educational experience which forms the child or young person as a person of integrity, compassion, faith and wisdom. Catholic schools also work closely with their local parish to enhance in students a capacity to make sense of their world, to make judgements and to recognise the uniqueness of others within a faith community.

Each school has a supportive community of teachers, parents, carers, clergy, parishioners, and support staff who work together to focus on students; encouraging success, promoting discipline, supporting creativity and instilling compassion. This means that Catholic schools do not just teach religious studies, they seek to develop spirit, mind, body and character and cultivate Gospel values that support lives filled with joy, endeavour and hope in the future.

Each Catholic school has a commitment to focusing on each individual child’s ability, offering a unique array of educational, creative, sporting and formation opportunities for students.

Catholic schools offer peace of mind to parents; knowing they’ve made the right choice and the best investment for their child’s future. It is because of this and the many opportunities available to students, that we believe choosing a Catholic education is the right choice to make.

WHY MANNING FAMILIES CHOOSE ST JOSEPH’S WINGHAM

OUR COMMUNITY

St Joseph’s is a very strong community of students, parents, teachers, parishioners and friends. There is a wonderful sense of belonging that permeates the school, creating a family-like atmosphere where everyone is welcome and everyone is valued. We pledge to offer our students quality, authentic and holistic education in this nurturing learning environment.

While valuing the community within the school, St Joseph's members also value the wider community and work to forge mutually advantageous relationships within it. Participation in community events are encouraged by attending commemorative services and celebrations, providing outreach to others at the local aged care facility or by supporting Vinnies appeals and inviting the community into our school for liturgies.

DEDICATED AND COMMITTED STAFF

At St Joseph’s our committed staff strive to nurture the development of students and assist them to reach their full potential. Every member of staff really knows each student, creating a tremendous feeling of belonging within the school. St Joseph’s students feel loved and accepted and take great pride in their school.

St Joseph’s operates as a Professional Learning Community where teachers work collaboratively with each other, with the students and with the parents to set student learning goals and deliver learning experiences tailored to individual needs. This allows all students to experience high levels of achievement and to reach their agreed individual learning goals.

QUALITY TEACHING

Quality teaching is provided by exceptional educators at St Joseph’s Primary School Wingham. A highly structured combination of professional development opportunities and access to quality teaching resources and experiences has been developed to increase student readiness for and engagement in learning. Curriculum differentiation ensures that the needs of students are catered for at all levels through the use of Flexible Learning Groups and Gifted Education.

St Joseph’s curriculum is designed to ensure students meet the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) requirements. The school is comprised of students and teachers with diverse experience, knowledge and expertise, who are actively engaged in learning together.

St Joseph’s learning support team provides learning support services within the regular classroom and special needs programs to students with disabilities and/or additional learning needs.

SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT

St Joseph’s Wingham is committed to creating a positive environment where all students are able to learn. We use the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) system to implement a range of positive behaviour supports for all students in both classroom and non-classroom settings.

Introducing, modelling and reinforcing positive social behaviour is an important part of a student’s educational experience. Teaching behavioural expectations and rewarding students for following them is both proactive and positive.

Students are explicitly taught a focus for each week and given examples of what this may look like and how they are linked to our three core behavioural expectations. These expectations reflect our community’s values and encompass our current school rules. I AM SAFE, I AM RESPECTFUL, I AM A LEARNER, I AM A STEWARD OF CREATION.

We regularly communicate with parents about the focus areas we are working on and celebrate the success of students through the school newsletter as they collect their “Gotcha’s” and other rewards. Parents supporting us is imperative to ensure that the key messages are the same at home and school.
